Black Decker 12V SmartSelect Technology Cordless Drill 300x246 Black & Decker 12V Cordless Drill ReviewBlack & Decker has a new line of cordless tools that use the SmartSelect Technology. Black & Decker is helping take the guess work out of setting the proper drill speed for optimum performance. This is an especially useful feature for many DIY home improvement folks and homeowners.

SmartSelect Technology Features:

  • Select the application and the drill adjusts to optimal power and speed
  • 2 Speed Gear Box with variable speed trigger for high torque screwdriving and high speed drilling applications
  • High torque motors delivers 150 in/lbs
  • Slide pack battery is easy to remove and install.
  • Keyless chuck for quick and easy bit changes

Easy Operation

Black Decker Smart Select Technology turn 300x161 Black & Decker 12V Cordless Drill ReviewAs I said SmartSelect Technology helps take the guess work out of selecting proper drill speed. Depending on the type of screw you’re fastening or the type of material that you’re drilling decides how fast and with what torque you need. So Black & Decker made it really simple.

Just above the chuck is an annotated twist switch that allows you to quickly and easily adjust both the speed and torque for the drill. As you see in the adjacent photo the dial switch has pictures representing different screws and/or drilling operations. Simply twist the switch to the correct drilling operation and you’re ready to go.

Overall Impression

The Black & Decker SmartSelect Technology 12V Cordless Drill is perfect for minor repairs and DIY projects around theĀ  home. The balance of this cordless drill is really good and I was very pleased with how easy it is to use. I previously owned a 9.6V Black & Decker Cordless Drill and I was pleased with the increased power that the 12V has. Even if you own a powerful 18V cordless drill I recommend you keep a smaller 12V charged around the house. In fact, this drill will be kept in the house for small jobs where I don’t need the power of an 18V. At just over $40 this is a cordless drill at a great price point.
