Custom Mantel – Part 6

Written by .

Custom Mantel Part 6 Well I had every intention on finishing the mantel this weekend……not going to happen. I did finish all the mouldings today and all that remains is the 5/4 finished shelf.

I was going to start it but I want to have all my patience when I start it so it comes out good. To create the shelf I’ll be mitering the corner and putting it together with my biscuit joiner.

As you can see today I put on the final crown moulding, the band moulding down below the lower mouldings and I put on the cove moulding just below the granite hearth.

Once I get the mantel shelf on then I’ll have to fill all the holes and caulk all the joints prior to putting a coat of primer on. So far the mantel has followed the plan almost perfectly.
