EGO POWER+ Lawn Mower Preview

By Todd Fratzel on Gardening Tools

Update: I’ve spent some time mowing with this new mower and comparing it head to head with 4 other cordless mowers. We’ve got a detailed comparison article that goes into performance, run time, fit & finish as well as an overall winner. The EGO came out on top. If you want to see how this mower performed please check it out here: Best Cordless Lawn Mower Article.

56V Lithium-Ion Cordless Lawn Mower

2014 is shaping up to be the year of cordless outdoor power equipment. The stakes are high and EGO is betting on power and design to push them to the front of the line. They have released a new 56 volt lithium-ion battery platform to run their mower along with a string trimmer, blower and hedge trimmer.

EGO 56V Lawn Mower

The benefits of moving to a battery operated platform for outdoor power equipment is quite obvious. Removing dangerous gas and oil from our garages tops my list. Other benefits include much quieter tools, no need for expensive tune-ups, and significantly reduced maintenance.

When you combine these benefits with the advancements in lithium-ion batteries the time has finally come for this industry.

56V Lithium-Ion Battery and Fast ChargerEGO 56V Lithium-Ion Battery and Fast Charger

EGO is leading the industry with their 56V lithium-ion battery platform.  Most of the competition is running 40V (36V) batteries in their mowers and outdoor equipment lines. The added battery size gives EGO a distinct advantage in both run time and motor power.

EGO offers two battery sizes; 2.0 and 4.0 Ah batteries which is nice when switching between the larger mower and the smaller tools like the hedge trimmer. They also offer two battery chargers, their standard model and a fast charger. The standard charger charges the 4.0 battery in 80 minutes, while the fast charger can do it in 30 minutes!

Time To Ditch Small Gas Powered Tools

With entire lines of cordless outdoor power equipment flooding the market it’s time to consider ditching gas powered outdoor equipment. The EGO line offers most of the tools you need to maintain an entire yard from mowing, to trimming and cleanup. The new cordless batteries now provide the power needed to maintain small and medium sized yards.

Stay tuned later in the Spring (after the snow melts here in the Northeast) for a more detailed evaluation of this new line from EGO. We’ll have some comparison testing with other Brands along with a full product review.

Other EGO Products

In addition to the mower EGO also offers a string trimmer, hedge trimmer and blower. Below are a few images showing off these additional tools that run off the same 56V battery platform.

I owned a battery powered mower for a while and it died very quickly .. before I could mow about 2k square feet of grass (which doesn’t seem like a while lot for a fully charged huge batter) — once my current gas powered (dependable) mower dies on me, I might consider another batter power with the improvements that have happened over the last few years
