Master Lock Window Bar Review

Master Lock Window Bar

Master Lock Window BarThe folks at Master Lock sent me the new Window Bar to test and review. Every year countless homes are broken into causing fear, damage and loss of property. Most entries into homes are through sliding doors and windows. With this new “window bar” alarm you can secure those sliding doors and windows for a reasonable price.

Manufacturers Information

The Master Lock “Window Bar” provides easy, affordable all year round protection for your home. The “Window Bar” is an adjustable security device that installs in seconds and locks to resist forced entry. It fits most standard windows and sliding doors by easily expanding from 22” to 36”. It has a loud, built-in pressure activated 110 decibel alarm that deters burglars and notifies occupants of a forced entry attempt. There’s also an added visual deterrent with the word “Alarm” prominently printed right on the bar. The Window Bar is battery operated and the long-life battery is included.

“Experts agree that keeping windows and doors locked and adding levels of security are among the most important deterrents to burglars and the affordable, easy to use Master Lock Window Bar provides an additional and effective level of security on the smallest of budgets,” said Rebecca Smith, VP of Marketing. “Whether you are traveling far from home or even in your home sleeping, the Master Lock Window Bar provides another level of protection and peace of mind from would be intruders.”

Simple, Easy To Use Product

Master Lock Window BarThe Master Lock Window Bar is really easy to install and use. First you install a 23A 12 Volt battery in the battery compartment. Then you rotate the shaft and expend or collapse the adjustable pole to fit the door or window. Then you rotate the shaft again to lock it in place. That’s all there is to arming the Master Lock Window Bar alarm.

To test the alarm I installed the Window Bar in one of our double hung windows (see picture at top). I unlocked our window and went outside and “lifted” the window slightly to open it. The alarm sounded immediately and it’s VERY loud! Furthermore the big red letters on the side of the Window Bar clearly identify the object as an Alarm!

The Master Lock Window Bar certainly performs as advertised. It’s an inexpensive (MSRP $28.38) product that allows you to quickly and easily alarm most sliding doors, sliding windows or double hung windows.

Likely Uses

I think this alarm is best used on sliding doors or windows that are close to the ground where an intruder might be able to easily climb into the window. This product would be very good for basement doors or doors in the back of the house where an intruder might try and enter without being seen.
