Paint Color Selection
As I stated in a previous post, we’re beginning to work on the arriving baby’s nursery. When we built the new house we painted the smaller 4th bedroom a light shade of green. The plan was that the light shade of green could probably work for a boy or a girls room.
Since we found out that the new baby is a girl we’ve decided to add a chair rail and a two-tone paint scheme. We’ve decided to leave the light shade of green on the bottom and add a light shade of pink above the chair rail.
One of the easiest ways to choose paint colors is to use a paint wheel. The paint wheel shown in the photo is from Sherwin Williams. I happen to like their paint and because we buy so much paint at work they give me these paint wheels. Most places don’t just hand them out, however, if you ask nicely and you’re buying more than one gallon of paint chances are they will give you one. The nice thing about the wheel is you don’t have to pick up 100 loose ones to bring home (like at the big orange store!).
The other suggestion I have for selecting paint colors is to try some samples once you’ve narrowed down the choices. Many places now offer to sell very small sample size containers so you can paint a small area on the wall to see if you’ll like the color. The other advice I have is to realize that most paints will look much darker on the wall versus the paint samples. Most paint manufactures also provide color palates online so you can browse their paint color selections.
