Safe Granite Countertop Cleaner
We’ve finally found a safe granite countertop cleaner that we like! You may or may not know that typical kitchen cleaning products aren’t really safe for your beautiful granite countertops that you spent tons of money on!
Most household cleaning products contain acids, ammonia and scouring powders that can damage natural stone countertops including the popular granite tops. Until recently we’ve had a really hard time finding something that would remove the grease from our countertops and leave them streak free and shiny. The granite fabricators have told us on numerous occasions to just use soap and water. That just never seemed to do much good so we’ve been trying product after product with little or no success.
Finally today my wife came home with 409 Natural Stone Cleaner that she picked up at the grocery store. I was a bit skeptical based on my previous experience with the other cleaners. So after dinner I tried it out on the island and I was really impressed. Not only did it clean up the greasy film that has accumulated over time but it left the granite countertop looking like the day it was installed. This 409 has a specially pH balanced formula made specifically for cleaning today’s natural stone countertops.

I use TileLab granite and marble cleaner, which is available at the Borg stores. They also make a one-step cleaner/resealer product which actually works pretty well. StoneTech makes another.
You can also homebrew a granite cleaner. A friend swears by his formula which is drug store rubbing alcohol with a few drops of dishwashing detergent. The alcohol won’t strip the sealer but it will get off some stuff that the commercial cleaners won’t and it disinfects as well.
You can remove stains either with acetone or another homebrew of plaster and bleach. Let the latter sit on the stain for about a half hour then wash it off.
