Buy A Snow Blower Before Winter Storms Hit

By Todd Fratzel on Landscaping, Maintanence, Power Tools

Winter is almost here in New England and that means snow! If you lived here last year then you probably are still have nightmares about the quantity of snow we received. Buying a snow blower is one of the best ways to keep your driveway cleared this winter without breaking your back.

It never fails, each year the night before the first big snow storm people rush out to buy a snow blower and find themselves disappointed with the lack of models available. I too made that mistake one season and regretted it the entire 34 inches of deep wet snow that I shoveled from our long driveway.

The key to buying a good snow blower is making sure you buy one with enough power to get the job done. If you have a 80 foot long driveway like I do and live in New Hampshire then you’re going to want a large engine with a wide auger.

I’d recommend a snow blower similar to the Poulan PP10530ES Pro 10.5 HP 30-Inch Tecumseh Snow King 2 Stage Snow Thrower With Electric Start, Power Steering, And Remote Chute Deflector Control which has plenty of capacity for large driveways and deep snow. Most snow blowers are like lawn mowers, the chassis is unique to the brand and they add on a name brand engine. In my opinion most of the models are fairly similar so I’d recommend choosing one that has the engine brand you like best.

Just make sure you figure out what type of snow blower you want before the first hint of snow. You’ll have plenty of models and features to choose from and you won’t be knee deep in snow waiting for your snow blower to arrive.

Currently, I live in new york where it snows alot during the peak months (January-February). The two stage models really get the job done in less then 30 minutes. I also have a poulan pro model, and it has not broke.
