Settlement In Chinese Drywall Dispute

By Todd Fratzel on Drywall

Defective Chinese Drywall

Last year we published an article about How To Identify Chinese Drywall after scores of homes in the Southern US reported significant damage due to defective Chinese drywall. This week we’ve learned of news that Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin will fund the drywall replacement in 300 homes located in the Southern US as part of a settlement.

The 300 homes to be repaired will be selected by the Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin company. Sources say the hope is by repairing the 300 homes it can serve as a pilot program for settling some of the 10,000 claims that have now been filed.

The cost of such a settlement must be staggering and likely to spur other Chinese drywall manufacturers to join in the settlement. So far Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin is the only company to agree to repairs.
